Prospect's Cottonwood Trees Coming Down

As predicted almost eight years ago, the Times-Call is reporting today that 181 cottonwood trees are being removed in Longmont's Prospect neighborhood.  Cottonwoods are the fool's gold of mountain west residential streets:  their benefits of being quick growers and leafy shade providers are outweighed by their short lifetime and messiness.  They are nice trees but best belong in their native habitat along creeksides.

Do you know if they're being replaced with something else any time soon? Sad to see trees go, but they do make quite a mess.

The TC article says "a new species" of tree will replace the removed cottonwoods. Also, it's going to take 7 years (!) to complete the removal.

Wow! Seven years?! I guess I have time to go and say goodbye then. :) It will be interesting to see what replaces them... over the next 3/4 of a decade. Thanks for the info.
