More on the Nelsons from the Life magazine article

Given the interest in the Longmont story from Life magazine in 1948, here's some more information about Patty Anne Nelson (Life spelled it "Pattie" but two other references call her "Patty") and her family.

Patty Nelson was a graduate of Ft. Collins High School and attended Colorado A&M (now CSU) for a year where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta. Her father, Raymond W. Nelson, operated a photography business on Main Street (as seen in the Life article) from the late 1940's to the early 1950's before moving to Denver. Her mother's name was Hazel.

The Nelsons lived at 926 Third Avenue and this is her likely destination in the picture where she is carrying the grocery bags home after work.

In September 1948, just a few months after the Life magazine article came out, Patty married Robert Dolton of Ft. Collins with the ceremony taking place in Goodland, KS. Robert Dolton was also a Ft. Collins High School graduate, and a sophomore at Colorado A&M majoring in animal husbandry. In 1949, Patty and Robert moved to Springfield, MO after Robert had transferred to Missouri State college.

As mentioned in the article, Patty had one sister, Bonnie, with her married name being Mrs. Craig Anderson (she's in the Life article playing the piano.)

Raymond Nelson died on February 27, 1975 in Denver, survived by Hazel and his two daughters. At that time, Patty Dolton was living in Lakewood, Colorado and her sister Bonnie was still in Longmont.

If I find any more information, I'll post it. Likewise, if you know the Nelson family, feel free to leave a comment.
