Eleven new trees have been planted in a cluster in Kanemoto Park, close to the pagoda:
Most of the trees are the Kwanzan Japanese Flowering Cherry (Prunus serrulata Kwanzan), naturally very appropriate for this park!
I was thinking that these trees might have been acquired from the defunct Cherry Creek Tree Farm inventory in Lafayette that the county acquired, and were offering to non-profits for free. But most of them (the Kwanzan's) have tags from the Lefthand Vally Nursery. There is one Sargent Cherry (Prunus sargentii) in the mix, labelled from an Ohio nursery.
