New music venue in town - Banjo Jim's Pickin' Barn

Well, not exactly in town but supposedly we have a new music venue outside of town, to the northeast. Supposedly, it opened tonight, January 26.

Banjo Jim's Pickin' Barn is the name of the place and it seems to be founded by one or more of the Stanleytones. Here's a map of how to get there:

Not sure if they have a web site or not.

Ben of the Hi-Beams confirmed tonight after their show in Loveland that they will be playing there in April. He said he's visited the place and it's done up real nice. Ben thinks they have played in Longmont before but I as I mentioned before, it's been so long that I don't remember it.

Will post a review when I get out there.

Thank Ya

With the previous mentioning of the state of country music today couched in a book review, it was great to see Sunny Sweeney make an appearance in Lyons over the weekend. She's the real thing; straight-ahead country music with strong vocals, tied up nicely with great songs and an authentic band. No Nashville packaging or pretensions. And she's the self-proclaimed #1 fan of Merle Haggard.

Applause was acknowledged with a East Texas-style "Thank Ya"! Sunny also mentioned a friend of hers, Brennen Leigh, who she said is even further over on the real-country-o-meter. Will have to listen to her!

Looks like Sunny Sweeney has some upcoming nights at the Grand Old Opry in March, where I'm sure she'll wow 'em.
