Rogers River Run 5K 2015

Start of the annual Rogers River Run 5K in Longmont, Rhythm on the River (20th Anniversary).

Results are here. Exciting race between two Firestone residents.  Kelly Daugherty (in the Superman shirt above) had the lead for most of the race but Michael Brown surged for the lead just around the 3 mile marker.

Furthest traveller was David Gutierrez of Madrid, Spain.

Longmont Rogers River Run 5K 2013

One of my favorite volunteer gigs each year is to ride the bike ahead of the Rogers River Run 5K runners in Longmont with the nifty course marshal title.

The start line.  Again this year, the event filled up to capacity with over 500 runners/walkers.   More high school runners that I've seen before.

The Mayor of Longmont, Dennis Coombs, brings it home, sporting five fingers shoes:

Beer is being served for the first time in Rhythm on the River history:

On the humid side this morning (southeastern USA readers may laugh) because of the rain last night:

Start of 2008 Rogers River Run 5K

A few minutes before the start of today's Rogers River Run 5K at the 13th Annual Rhythm on the River festival in Longmont. No hot air ballons today because it was judged to be too windy at the 6:30 AM launch time. An hour later, it couldn't have been much calmer!

Two contenders warm up.

Bolder Boulder 2008

Top 5 Bolder Boulder 2008 observations:

  1. The cloudy, wet conditions were great during the race; not so nice post-race in the stands.
  2. I missed the always stellar and traditional Bolder Boulder TV coverage by Channel 4 in Denver. If you did too, be sure to let the race director know your thoughts about the change announced a few months ago. (Next day update: it's probably better to let Channel 4 know as this was their decision not to continue to provide live coverage).
  3. Unlike suffering through the learning curve last year, it looks like they've figured out the disposable chip-timing technology. Other large-scale races will probably soon follow.
  4. If you participated today and also in previous years, did you notice that there were a lot less "bouncers" (used to watch for non-paying "bandit" runners) on the run-in to the stadium this year? In the past, it's been like running through a turnstile at that point in the race.
  5. The good news is that the Twin Peaks Mall south parking lot in Longmont was packed with cars this morning. It would have made a great publicity photo for the Mall, especially in light of the problems that they are experiencing. The bad news was that almost all those cars were there for the Bolder Boulder bus, and not the Mall. Some of the outlying businesses smartly took advantage of the free foot traffic at their doorstep, by handing out coupons.

Twin Peaks Rotary Cross Country Challenge on November 3

Coming up on November 3, 2007: a leg of a local series of cross country running race comes to Longmont. The Twin Cities Rotary XC Challenge is being race directed by my friend Jason (a superb runner himself), who also is the president of the Rotary Club this year.

From Jason:
"This cross country footrace, run entirely on dirt and grass, is race #3 in
the 2007 Fall Cross Race series. Thanks to our generous sponsors, 100% of
your entry fee will go into the Longmont Twin Peaks Rotary Charity Fund,
Inc, a registered Colorado non-profit 501(c)(3) corporate entity. Out of
this fund, numerous scholarships will be awarded to area high school seniors
who are set to attend an in-state college or university."
Registration and information is available here and you can register in person at Boulder Fleet Feet Sports and the the Boulder Running Company (insert usual whine here about Longmont not having its own running store).

Longmont supplies hundreds of entrants each year to the Bolder Boulder. It would be great to have a super local turnout to this event from our prolific running community.

This is as good as place as ever to plug the Longmont Running Club; a loose-knit group of friendly Longmont running enthusiasts, of all abilities and ages. No fees, just running.
